Model Beck Thindwa over the weekend represented the country well when she starred at the 15th edition of the Swahili Fashion Week in Tanzania.
Swahili Fashion Week, which is amongst the biggest annual fashion events in Africa, seeks to provide a platform for fashion and accessory designers from Swahili speaking countries and beyond to showcase their talent, market their creativity and network with clientele and international fashion industry players.
Thindwa, who has modelled in several fashion shows in the country including All Shades of Beautiful Fashion, got the invitation to participate in the event barely three weeks after bagging Best African Female Model at BAFS Awards.
Model Association of Malawi President Chris Kunda Wednesday hailed Thindwa.
“This is a great boost to our modelling industry and we are so excited because she has opened doors to other models in the country with her impressive performance,” Kunda said.
He said the model got sponsored to participate in the annual event by her management Lab Angeles Models and Models Association of Malawi.
Thindwa described Swahili Fashion Week, which ran from December 2 to 4, as great and that apart from flying the country’s flag, she also learnt a lot.
“It was a very good experience for me, where I was able to share the stage with other top models from across Africa. This means a lot to me in a way that it has also exposed me,” she said.
Thindwa, who is expected back home tomorrow, described modelling as a powerful art of displaying, among others, beauty, hence the country needs to embrace it.
