Reunion Insurance Company Managing Director, Dorothy Chapeyama, has been named Africa’s most influential woman in business by CEO Global. CEO Global Awards are an annual industry and peers recognition programme honouring CEOs and companies of all types and sizes in North America, Europe, Middle- East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin-America.
Chapeyama, a three-time Insurance Association of Malawi president, received her award during a CEO Global gala night held in Lusaka, Zambia last month.
The mission of the CEO Global awards is to identify and recognise Africa’s most influential male and female leaders. The nomination process for the Awards is an open process with no professional body affiliation required. Nominations are obtained from the business community and individuals during a nomination window which opens on September 1 and closes December 31 each year.
During the course of 2015, just under 5,000 nominations across the various sectors were received from across the continent for the 2016 awards.
Receiving her award, Chapeyama said the recognition will help her to strive for even greater achievements going forward.
After working for Commercial Union Assurance, later renamed CGU Insurance, for 20 years, Chayepama in 2005 set up her own insurance company, Reunion Insurance Company.
Since 2005, the company has grown by leaps and bounds, from a tiny office with small plastic chairs and one computer to the large and spacious Oasis Plaza Building.
Reunion has grown from a staff complement of 10 to over 50 employees and it has spread its tentacles throughout the country with 11 offices stationed in various places.
