Malawi Deputy Ambassador to Kenya, Reverend Lewis Nakari Mwanamvekha, died Thursday morning at Rosebank Hospital is South Africa.
Family relation to the deceased, James Chuma, said Mwanamveka, 54, died after a short battle with pneumonia.
“He was sick for a long time. He just complained of some body pains and when he was taken to the hospital last week, he was diagnosed with pneumonia. His death is a big blow to our family because he was one of the family members we were relying on for advice,” Chuma said.
Chuma, who was in South Africa with the deceased, said the body of Mwanamvekha is expected to be brought home on Saturday afternoon.
Chuma said burial arrangements will be announced once the body returns from South Africa.
The late Mwanamvekha, among other organisations, worked for the University of Malawi and University of Blantyre Synod before being appointed to the diplomatic post by President Peter Mutharika last year.
