Man arrested for ‘killing’ wife

A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife, Zomba Police spokesperson, Patricia Sipiliano, said Tuesday.

She said Kondwani Chimenya of Lomwe Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chikowi, in Zomba was arrested for allegedly killing his 26-year-old wife— Anganatha Ephraim Mpelule Village of T/A Chikowi.

It is alleged that, on the night of May 12 2018, the suspect told his wife that he was feeling unwell and asked her to accompany him to a witchdoctor.

“When they arrived at [the witchdoctor’s place in] Malangwi Village, the husband allegedly produced a panga knife and hacked his wife, who died on the spot,” Sipiliano said.

The following day, the body was found by a passerby, who reported the matter to police.

Following investigations, Sipiliano said police arrested the husband, who, during interrogation, admitted to have killed his wife but did not disclose his motivation.

Chimenya will appear in court to answer murder charge, contrary to Section 209 of Penal Code.
