Police in the Northern Region are looking for a man suspected to have hacked his wife and son in Mzimba Wednesday night.
Malawi News’ visit at Mzuzu Central Hospital Thursday found the wife— Zione Mvula—in pains, unable to speak and with deep cuts in the head.
The woman has twins of less than one-year-old and it is apparently difficult to feed them.
Relative to the victim, Mary Makwakwa, simply said the incident was because of some marital disagreements in their family.
“I learnt of the incident from her neighbours that she had been injured by her husband and that she was taken to Mtwalo Health Centre. I rushed to the hospital where we did not spend more time as we were transferred to here [Mzuzu Central Hospital]. I did not have enough time to inquire about what happened. The son is at the health centre because he sustained minor injuries,” she said.Advertisement
Makwakwa then appealed for support from well-wishers for basic needs of the twins such as milk.
“She is struggling to breastfeed them because of her condition and it has become difficult for us to buy milk because we simply cannot afford,” he said.
At the time of our inquiry, Mzimba Police Officer-in-Charge Sam Nkhwazi said they had not yet arrested any suspect.
The victim, who has six children, comes from Elangeni in Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba.
