Man killed by wife, relatives
A 33-year-old man in Zomba has died after he was beaten up by his wife and the wife’s relatives.
According to police, the man, Yohane Kafuti of Nyozani Village in Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba was assaulted after he had picked a quarrel with his wife over a family matter.
Zomba Police Spokesperson Patricia Sipiliano identified the suspects as Maria Chidimba—the wife— Witness and Martha Chidimba all from Nyozani Village.
“It was reported that the victim had quarreled with his wife over a domestic issue on January 21 this year which resulted into a fight and in the course of fighting, the wife’s relations joined the fight and assaulted Nyozani.
“But it was only on January 29 when he decided to visit the hospital where he was admitted and died the following day,” Sipiliano said.
According to postmortem conducted at Zomba Central Hospital, the victim died due to internal injuries resulting from the assault.
Meanwhile, the police have condemned domestic violence and have asked people to seek intervention from leaders other than resorting in violence.
“When we think we cannot be reconciled by our own people the best option is to go to the victim support unit at any police station,” Sipiliano said.
