Malawi Queens shooter Joyce Mvula was voted player of the match after producing an outstanding performance to guide Manchester Thunder to a 71-60 victory over Strathclyde Sirens at the Emirates Arena, England, on Monday night.

Mvula scored 50 goals to win the award and take her side to second position on the Netball Super league table behind leaders Saracens Mavericks, who have 12 points from four games.

Thunder lie second with nine points from three games.

Mvula, who has played all the three games for Thunder this season, paid tribute to her teammates for supporting her.

“My performance goes back to the coaches and my teammates,” said the former Blue Eagles Sisters’ player.

During the match, Mvula had 90 percent shooting accuracy and fed her fellow attackers with five telling passes. She had two turnovers.

Her compatriot Towera Vinkhumbo, who plays for Sirens, missed the closely contested game.

Sirens are seventh on the table with three points from three games having won a game and lost twice.

Meanwhile, Queens coach Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa has said she is pleased with Mvula’s performance.

“She is playing against top players whom we will face in up-coming events. Her performance is good for the Queens. I watched the whole game. I must say her shooting accuracy has improved because it is above 90 percent unlike when we went to Namibia for the Queens games. That time it was around 80 percent,” she said.
