Mandevu gears for Independence celebrations
As Malawi celebrates 53 years of independence on July 6, Machinga-based Village at Mandevu Farm says it has lined up a number of activities to entertain Malawians.
The Village at Mandevu Farm Supervisor, Khumbo Kalindekafe, said the entertainment joint would like Malawians to celebrate 53 years of independence in style.
Speaking in an interview, Kalindekafe said Mandevu has prepared a number of traditional dances as well as traditional dishes to spice up the celebrations.
“As you are aware, 53 years of independence are not a joke. We would, therefore, like Malawians to appreciate various traditional dances the country has to offer. We have lined up four days of fun, starting from Wednesday evening up to Sunday,” Kalindekafe said.
He said some of the traditional dances include makanja, chikongo, gologolo and mkango, adding that there would also be a disco.
“People cannot celebrate 53 years of independence without sampling traditional food. We have prepared dishes such as thelele, chisoso, chigwada, chipele and thobwa,” Kalindekafe said.
