Maneb’s Gerald Chiunda arrested

Suspended Malawi National Examinations Board Executive Director Gerald Chiunda was arrested Tuesday.
Chiunda confirmed that law enforcers from Eastern Region Police invited him to Zomba Police Station.
“Yes, I can confirm that I received a call from police. I went to the station and they locked me up. They argue that they want to charge me with negligence,” he said.
He said he was surprised with the development as the courts granted him an injunction and directed that a judicial review be conducted on the issue to do with management of 2020 Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations.
“Since they are the police, I obeyed. But it’s the same case where the court granted us an injunction and ordered a judicial review,” Chiunda said.
Eastern Region Police spokesperson Joseph Sauka referred us to National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera, who could neither deny nor confirm the development.
