Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife Michael Usi popularly known as Manganya is the lead actor in a new drama episode Sankhani Moyo (Choose Life) which premiered last Wednesday.
The drama episode is being driven by Ministry of Health in partnership with Applied Development Communications and Training Services (Adecots) with funding from Adra Denmark.
Adecots Executive Director, Mercy Simbi, said Sunday Manganya plays lead actor starting episode two.
“He was supposed to be in from the start but he was busy during campaign but we shot the scenes he is in some weeks ago,” Simbi said.
She said unlike in Tikuferanji, where he was the lead actor and the producer, in Sankhani Moyo, he is bringing in facts about Covid-19 pandemic.
“He is Manganya but slightly different and this brings me joy. He has a huge following already so, this should help popularise the campaign. I guess this is why when we were discussing with Adra Denmark about the campaign, he was the centre of our discussions having worked with them for over 27 years,” Simbi said.
She has since indicated that the play has received massive feedback since its premiere.
Usi last week told arts association leaders in Blantyre that he will continue acting despite holding a ministerial position as well as being UTM Vice President.
He confirmed he was part of the episode.
“Yes I am part of it. I am happy to play a role to disseminate information about Covid-19 pandemic,” Usi said.
He also said he was humbled to play the lead role in the drama episode.
Derived from the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy 30 verse 19, the play, which delves into a story of two kingdoms where there is death and other vices discussing a community and life has been introduced as part of disseminating information to the masses in the country as it battles Covid-19 pandemic.
The drama episode airs on TTV on Sunday and MBC TV on Wednesday. It also airs on radio stations such as ZBS, Yoneco and MBC.
