Sports officials in Mangochi have expressed gratitude with the increase in companies and organisations that are showing interest to sponsor youth football in the district.
Mangochi District sports officer, Stella Chikaonda, made the remarks on Monday during the unveiling of a K200, 000 Under-15 football cup sponsorship by Teras— manufacturers of a multi-healing drug.
Chikaonda said Teras has increased to two the number of tournaments in the district following another K20 0, 000 councilors sponsorship for Under-20 football league.
“We are very grateful to Teras for sponsoring the knock-out cup which will help keep our youth in shape as they wait for FMB Under-20 national tournament. The general public may wish to know that following these sponsorships, we have managed to unearth talents such that three of our youths are going for trials at Super League clubs,” Chikaonda said.
Teras marketing director, Ronald Amos, indicated that his organisation might in future sponsor the district’s youth league if there will be fiscal discipline with the current funds.
“As an organization, we appreciate the importance of good health for an individual that is why we thought of partnering our friends at Mangochi Youth Football Association in order to keep the youth busy, as well as help them realise their full sporting potential,” Amos said.
According to Mangochi Youth Football Association chairperson, Muhamad Ajussa, there are 12 teams participating in the month-long knock-out cup. The winner will receive K50,000, while the runners-up will pocket K30,000. Player of-the- Tournament and top goal scorer with receive K10,000.
