Mangochi Stadium ready August
Football n Mangochi district is expected to wear a new face in August when its stadium, which is under construction, will be ready for use.
Mangochi Town Council chairperson, Ibrahim Katcheya, said the contractor of the stadium assured him that the 30,000-seater facility will be ready after three months.
“I recently inspected construction work together with other stakeholders. I should say there is progress on the ground,” Katcheya explained.
The construction cost is K410 million and the instability of Malawi Kwacha has resulted in certain aspects of the project being left out.
“The stadium will have a car park, a VIP stand and open stands to the east and to the west. But the stands that were intended to be erected behind the goal-posts, will not be there as we do not have enough money. The rise in commodity prices has affected us,” Katcheya said.
Mangochi District Football League chairperson, Darwin Nhlane said there was need for regular stakeholders’ meetings to avoid speculation on the changes being made to the stadium.
“I, hereby, request all well-wishers to come forward and contribute towards finishing this project. The council makes very little money which would never build the remaining stands,” Nhlane said on his facebook page.
Mangochi’s neighbouring districts of Balaka and Dedza have stadiums that also host TNM Super League games.
