Mapeto directors, others arrested over tax invasion

MRA Head of Corporate Affairs Steven Kapoloma confirmed the development.
He said they suspected that the six falsified documents presented to customs officials for declaration and clearance of fabrics in April this year
“I can confirm arresting six people in relation to offences under Customs Laws in which they are suspected to have connived to defraud the government of K252, 620,236.81 in tax revenue,” Kapoloma said.
The six include Fizal Latif Gaffar, who is managing director at Mapeto David Whitehead and Sons, a director Gaffar Latif Zarina Mohammed as well as Gaffar and Muhammed Yaseen, who are proprietors of Star Style Investments.
MRA has also arrested McKnight Banda and Chimwemwe Tembo, who are managers of a clearing agency, for their alleged role.
