Gabriel Kambale and Margaret Mukwenha played a good round of golf to beat a field of 67 golfers and emerge this year’s champions of the Total Malawi Invitational Golf Tournament played at the Nchalo Sports Club on Saturday.

With five bogeys and several pars, Golf Union of Malawi president, Kambale, won the men’s division with 37 points.

His closest challenger was Maulice Chilinda, who got 36 points.

“I really played well especially on the front nine where I got three under par after four holes. Of course, I met challenges when I was finishing the front nine but I still did well,” Kambale said in his victory speech.

Mukwenha won the ladies’ division after amassing 34 points, 10 more than her closest challenger, Connie Muguvu-Karuku.

“I started well. I played with five pars or so and that gave me the advantage. Even though it was hot, I still played well and managed to win. The course was in great condition therefore, I enjoyed my game,” Mukwenha said.

In the Nchalo Close competition, Emmanuel Banda emerged the winner after getting 31 points.

Total Malawi Limited commercial manager, McChancy Mkamanga, said the competition gave them a platform to interact with their customers and enlighten them on the new products they were producing.

“We are known for dealing with fuel but now we are diversifying our business. We are focussing on renewable energy through the provision of solar equipment. This is what we are calling the Awango Project where we are selling solar equipment at our service stations to give people who don’t have access to electricity a chance to benefit from solar energy,” he said.

“We have also used this new innovation to pursue our social responsibility. We have donated solar panels and equipment to Balaka and Mtengowanthenga Hospitals.”
