In a bid to help marketers position themselves for available opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the Institute of Marketers in Malawi (IMM) has organised a workshop where its members will be drilled on the pact.

AfCFTA is a continental pact in which all 55 African member states will be trading with reduced or removed tariffs.

According to IMM Director of Public Relations George Damson, the institute has engaged Batanai Clemence Chikwene, trade expert at the African Trade Policy Centre of the United Nations Economic Commission based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to equip the members.

Damson added that the workshop will focus on what AfCFTA is and how marketers can position themselves for the agreement.

“The AFCFTA is going to have a serious impact on businesses across the continent and marketers, being key shapers of organisational strategy, need to understand how the agreement will work so that they can position Malawian businesses competitively,” he said.

One of the IMM members Lorraine Chikhula said the knowledge is important for them because they deal with a wide range of industries, business and the economy at both local and international level.

“Understanding the AfCFTA is a critical and relevant element because it will assist marketers in their jobs and add value to the country at large,” she said.

The workshop, which will be held virtually, is free for IMM members in their quest to empower the Malawian marketer to thrive in spheres of influence.
