Celebrated local boxer, Wilson ‘Hardhitter’ Masamba will face Tanzanian pugilist, Epson ‘Jovin’ John in an eight round non-title lightweight fight set for M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe on December 26.
The fight comes at a time when Masamba and his three compatriots failed to fight in Tanzania two weeks ago due to a tight schedule and complications over television live broadcasts.
Masamba said he was delighted to have been offered a chance to fight at home.
“I really wanted to fight in Tanzania but was unable to because the promoter did not time the fights properly. The only good thing is that we were able to get our contractual fee. I am delighted to face another Tanzanian boxer under Gunde Boxing Promotions,” he said.
According to boxrec.com, Masamba, 33, has 29 wins, including 10 knockouts and 10 defeats, whereas the Tanzanian has seven wins, including four knockouts, two defeats and two draws.
In the main supporting fight, Chikondi Makawa will date Regen Champion, a boxer from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Limbani Chikapa will also face Limbani Powder in another non-title middleweight fight.
Gunde Boxing Promotions Managing Director, Jack Gunde, said preparations for the bouts are progressing well.
“We are also engaging comedians such as Mr Jokes to entertain patrons on the day,” Gunde said.
