Musicians Maskal, Patience Namadingo and Onesimus on Monday released singles, attracting mixed views from people.
Maskal, who is based in United States of America (USA), has dropped ‘Samadziwa’ after over five years’ silence and it also follows his collaborations with Gwamba and Barry One recently in ‘Get There’ and Miyala’, respectively.
The love song has been produced by BFB.
Maskal welcomed the release of songs by Onesimus and Namadingo, saying it was all for the good and growth of the industry but bemoaned people’s tendency of treating music as a competition.
“I didn’t know that Onesimus and Patience would also be dropping their songs on this same day until later. Actually they all came after my announcement, if I am not mistaken, but I think the way music is being celebrated back there is not good for the growth of music. Music is not a competition; it is a gift to the people,” Maskal said.
He said it has been great since the three songs were released.
“The response is good. Obviously I have a lot to give to my fans this year. So I have a music video coming after almost 11 years,” he said.
Maskal has continued to plough into the subject of love in his new songs just as he has done with his previous projects.
“These are the issues that people are going through. The message is all about how some people talk about other people’s relationships but they have no idea of where they are coming from,” he said.
With two albums to his credit namely Nthawi and Umunthu, Maskal is on a journey of an album project.
Namadingo comes out with ‘Sakaka’ ‘after he recently dropped ‘Lalala’, a track in which collaborated with Tay Grin.
The artist, who is in Zambia with Tay Grin and videographer Vinny Visuals on a media tour, said on his Facebook page he was excited to give people another new song for this year.
Onesimus, who has just been signed by Amaryllis Hotel as its ambassador, said yesterday he also did not know that he would release his song ‘Maria’ featuring Vusi alongside the tracks of Namadingo and Maskal.
“It just feels good to give people something. These are not love songs but motivational songs if one is to listen to the lyrics,” he said.
The artist, who has trended with his track ‘Solomoni’, is set to hold a Homecoming concert at Lilongwe Golf Club in September.
The three artists have trended on social media since the release of their songs.
