Masters fly for Carlsberg

By Peter Kanjere:

TNM Super League side Masters Security underlined its intent to grab the Carlsberg Cup by flying from Lilongwe to Blantyre Tuesday morning ahead of Saturday’s final against Be Forward Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The players, dressed in black suits, looked like company executives in their tailor-made attire.

Masters are only the second team this season to fly their players to a football match after Nyasa Big Bullets hired a Malawi Defence Force plane for their Super League game against Karonga United in the first round.

Masters General Secretary, Zachariah Nyirenda, said they are not in Blantyre for sight-seeing but to re-write the country’s football history by lifting the cup at the expense of Wanderers.

“The moment we beat Bullets, we were motivated and got the belief that it is possible to win the cup. We are here on a mission and not for shopping,” Nyirenda said.

He said qualifying for the final in itself is enough motivation for the entire team to die fighting on Saturday.

“We are not under pressure and we have come to Blantyre much earlier for several reasons and one of them is to ease pressure as we are like visitors here. We will put up one of our best displays and return to Lilongwe with the cup,” Selemani said.

Sponsor and patron Alfred Gangata has been motivating his charges with various incentives as he looks forward to success in the cup.

Before booting out Nyasa Big Bullets on post-match penalties at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe close to two weeks ago, Masters players went to the lake in Salima District for a breather.
