Masters, Nomads in gruelling encounters

By Mphatso Malidadi:

Carlsberg Cup finalists Be Forward Wanderers and Masters Security are in for a tricky week as they are set to face each other in back-to-back games within seven days.

Wanderers and Masters will first meet in the Carlsberg Cup final on October 20 at Kamuzu Stadium before locking horns again in a Fisd Challenge Cup preliminary round match. The fixture is scheduled to be fulfilled not later than October 27.

Initially, the two sides were due to meet this Sunday in the Fisd Challenge but the game has been rescheduled following Malawi national football team’s Cameroon trip.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Media Manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, confirmed that there is a possibility that Masters and Wanderers could clash twice within a week.

“They were supposed to play this weekend in the Fisd Challenge Cup preliminary round but Wanderers have contributed six players to the Flames, hence the need to reschedule the Fisd match.

“Most likely, the preliminary round match will be played after the Carlsberg Cup final and we will look at a possible date between October 21 and 27,” Zakazaka said.

Wanderers assistant Coach Allan Kamanga said his team would bank on proper planning to come out victorious in both games.

“We will plan for a game at a time. We will first focus on the Carlsberg Cup and, when we are done, we will start planning for the Fisd match,” Kamanga said.

Masters Team Manager, Muhammed Selemani, echoed the sentiments, saying there is need to plan carefully for each of the two matches.

Wanderers booted out Premier Division side Hangover United 3-0 to reach the final whereas Masters shocked and knocked out Nyasa Big Bullets with a 4-3 victory on post-match penalties.
