Masters Security free Abasi Makawa

By Mabvuto Kambuwe:

TNM Super League giants Silver Strikers have been given permission to speak to Masters Security FC Coach Abasi Makawa.

Silver are planning a technical panel shake-up after getting disappointed in their first round Super League showing.

Makawa is likely to replace Lovemore Fazili as Coach Young Chimodzi Senior’s assistant.

Reports suggest that Makawa has already agreed terms with the Airtel Top 8 champions.

When contacted yesterday, Silver Chairperson Peter Chando asked for more time to comment on the matter.

But Masters owner, Alfred Gangata, confirmed that Silver had been given permission to speak to Makawa.

“We have allowed them to talk to our coach. They are interested in him and it is up to them to reach an agreement. If things work out, it will be good for him. He is one of the best coaches around and he can be a perfect fit for any team,” Gangata said.

The Central Bankers were also interested in Masters assistant coach Elia Kananji but are reported to have opted for Makawa only.

Makawa, who had a stint with the defunct Epac FC, was not available on his mobile phone to comment on the matter yesterday.

Silver are fourth on the log table with 28 points, five points behind leaders Be Forward Wanderers.

The Central Bankers are also interested in signing Masters defender Eric Etsigah and Civil Sporting Club striker Raphael Phiri.

Last season, Makawa helped Masters win the Carlsberg Cup after beating Be Forward Wanderers 5-4 on post-match penalties at Kamuzu Stadium.

Masters finished fourth in the 2018 TNM Super League with 42 points.
