Relegation-threatened TNM Super League side, Masters Security, has refused to shrink following the departure of coach Abbas Makawa and his assistant, Elia Kananji.
Masters began life without the two on a sour note as they lost 3-0 to Nyasa Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
Second assistant coach, Jabil Maliro, took charge of the Lilongwe-based team on Saturday.
Masters owner, Alfred Gangata, said he would stick with Maliro as he was equally capable of guiding the team to safety in the top flight league.
“We are not rushing to get another coach. We believe in Maliro’s abilities and know he will deliver,” Gangata said.
Maliro said he was excited with the new role and promised to inspire Masters to a top eight finish.
“It was simply a bad day at the office for us but we have a good squad. My goal is to finish among the top eight teams in the Super League. I expect to put to good use what I learnt from Makawa and Kananji in changing the team’s fortunes,” he said.
But Maliro refused to comment on financial woes that are haunting the club, saying the atmosphere in the team was cordial.
“Our performance has nothing to do with what people are saying. We have great players who are capable of delivering and people will be surprised,” he said.
Bullets scored through Patrick Phiri, Hassan Kajoke and Gomezgani Chirwa, who was named Man-of-the-Match.
