Max DC to contest for Ntam presidency

Veteran actor, playwright and storyteller Maxwell Chiphinga popularly known as Max DC has said he will contest for the hot seat of president during National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) national elections to be held next month.

“I think I have lots of plans that can only be sustained by working within the National Executive Committee (Nec). Having been in the theatre industry for some time, I think I am not fit to serve as the president hence contesting now,” Max DC, the founder of Emanicipation Theatre Ensemble, said.

He said he has decided to come out early to announce his candidature because he is serious with his move.

“I am ready. I am not sure at the moment who else is contesting for the position of president but I am prepared and at the same time ready to serve the association,” Max DC said.

Chiphinga, who has also starred for Spouses and Workmates on Times Television in February this year launched his first book titled The Law and Grace.

A born again Christian, Max DC has a ministry known as Line One.

The national elections were expected to be held last year following expiry of term for members of Nec led by current President Eric Mabedi.

Mabedi, a renowned actor and comedian, who is popularly known as Jakobo has since said he will not seek re-election.

Recently, the theatre body also held chapter elections for the South, Central and North.

In a related development, former Northern chapter chairperson Sam Sambo has also said he will contest for a top position during the national elections to be held on October 31 2020.
