KAFERAPANJIRA—We need guidance

The Malawi Confederation of Chambers and Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) on Thursday elected five new councillors to fill vacant positions.

The new councillors were elected at an extraordinary General meeting held at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre.

They include Boyd Mwale, Reuben Kangawa, Dhares Kuyokwa Christopher Guta and Lusubilo Chakaniza.

A vacancy within the Council arises when a councillor dies, circumstances arise causing a member to be de-registered and when a councilor resigns, among other reasons.

MCCCI Chief Executive Officer, Chancellor Kaferapanjira, said the councillors are important in providing the secretariat with information that assists the private sector.

The Chamber has an establishment of 11 councillors —president, deputy president and nine other councillors— who come from the three regions of the country.

“We need guidance from the councillors from time to time to make sure that issues that members want sorted out are sorted out. In some cases, councillors are involved in direct lobbying with the government,” Kaferapanjira said.

In a separate interview, Chakaniza, said the new members are committed to contribute towards growth of the Chamber and the industry at large.
