Mchinji orphanage appeals for support

Mchinji-based orphanage, Home of Hope, is appealing for financial support to finalise construction of a girl’s hostel, vocational college and teacher’s houses.

The organisation has been failing to complete the project, which started in 2004, due to financial problems.

The hostel is at foundation level. The orphanage is where renowned pop star Madonna took her adopted Malawian child, David Banda.

The orphanage’s ambassador, Simon Kalombe, said they need well-wishers to assist in the project.

“I visited the orphanage and I was so touched with the overwhelming challenges it is facing. The orphanage is in dire need of financial resources to finalise the projects. If only people of goodwill can come in and assist, the livelihood of orphans at the facility they will be greatly improved,” he said.

He further appealed to well-wishers to donate to the orphanage in order for them to finalise other activities at the facility.

“The orphanage founding director, Todson Chipeta, gave me a document containing information about projects that are financially challenged. There is need to build teachers houses and complete girls hostels,” he said.

Meanwhile, the orphanage has arranged a medal to be given to anyone who will assist. It is being sold on auction at the orphanage.
