MCP names interim Leader of Opposition
By Rebecca Chimjeka:

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has named Lilongwe Central legislator, Lobin Lowe, as its interim Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
The development means that MCP president, Lazarus Chakwera, continues not to recognise President Arthur Peter Mutharika as Malawi leader.
MCP has confirmed the development in a letter addressed to Speaker of the National Assembly, Catherine Gotani-Hara.
“We are advising your office that, since matters relating to the presidential results are still pending in court, the party has appointed Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe Central Lobin Lowe to serve as interim leader of opposition until these matters are resolved,” the letter reads.
MCP has also advised the Speaker’s office that it has appointed Dowa North East MP, Samuel Kawale, as its Chief Whip.
MCP secretary general, Eisenhower Mkaka, Tuesday confirmed the development.
“Yes, we have written the Speaker of the National Assembly that Lowe is going to be our interim leader until the court resolves the matters,” he said.
Lowe also served in a similar position in the build-up to the elections after Chakwera had resigned from the post.
