The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youth committee for the North South on Saturday launched a ‘Make Chakwera President’ campaign as the tripartite elections fast approach.
The initiative was launched with fanfare in Mzuzu City and Mzimba North.
North-South region Director of Youth, Clement Manda, said the ‘Make Chakwera President’ initiative aims at ensuring that all trading centres in the two regions have special MCP Youth wings, which will later be used to monitor during the 2019 elections.
“All along, MCP has been winning the elections only that our challenge was failing to safeguard the votes. We could not follow our votes at polling centres because we had no energetic people like the youth to monitor our votes.
We want to establish MCP youth wings in all such trading areas using this introduced initiative,” Manda said.
Acting National Director of Youth Bernard Mtawali commended the North-south regional youth committee for the initiative saying it will help to strengthen the party membership and structures at grassroots.
“MCP wants such energetic youth to own the party in their respective areas. Therefore, we are going to continue supporting the youth in all the corners so that they can continue winning support from many votes as they have started doing,” Mtawali said.
The MCP youth visited trading centres of Bwengu, Kacheche, Enukweni and Jombo with the roadshows as part of the launch.
