Long-time administrative secretary for the main opposition Malawi Congress Party Potipher Chidaya has died.
He died in the afternoon of Saturday in Lilongwe, the party has confirmed.
Chidaya has been in the administrative office of the MCP since the days of Kamuzu Banda.
According to her daughter Salome Moyo, the 73-year- old died of an asthma attack though he has been, for a long time battling with diabetes.
Moyo says his death is a big loss to the family as he was their pillar.
Malawi Congress Party acting spokesperson, Eisenhower Mkaka has described Chidaya’s death as disturbing saying Chidaya dedicated his entire life to the party.
Mkaka says Chidaya was a record keeper for the party calling him a fountain of wisdom.
Chidaya hailed from Nkhoma in Lilongwe but is expected to be buried at Area 18 cemetery in the capital city.
He was born on August 28 1944 and is survived by seven children and five grand children.
