MDF death toll at 6

The death toll of Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers who have been killed in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has risen to six.
MDF spokesperson Paul Chiphwanya Friday confirmed receiving reports of two deaths of soldiers that got injured during the fight against illegal armed groups
On Thursday, MDF confirmed the death of four soldiers who were killed on Wednesday night during the same operation.
“Yesterday [Thursday] we received news that two more died in the evening and these are Aubrey Kachemwe and Jonathan Kapichira,” he said
Kachemwe was based at Moyale Barracks in Mzuzu while Kapichira was working under Parachute Battalion in Salima
Other UN peacekeepers were wounded and are receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to Malawi Holy Tett, through her Twitter page, has sent his condolence message expressing sadness over the sudden death of the soldiers.
“Very sad to hear about the deaths of four brave Malawian soldiers deployed to DRC under force intervention Brigade protecting peace. These soldiers contributed to Malawi’s reputation for professionalism, discipline and courage in DRC. Condolence to their families, MDF and Malawi,” she said
According to MDF, the bodies of the soldiers will be repatriated in the country once all the necessary United Nations procedures are completed.
