Mdoka eyes another exhibition in Lilongwe

Visual artist Kas Mdoka revered has plans to hold another exhibition in Lilongwe soon.
Mdoka is currently holding an exhibition at The Chocolate Factory Cafe in Zomba which is set to close on December 18 2019.
The visual artist said yesterday he was happy with the response he has received so far since his exhibition opened on November 28 2019.
“This is my first solo exhibition in Malawi. So, I am excited. It has been a successful exhibition where I managed to sell half the paintings on the opening day,” he said.
Mdoka said he has themed his exhibition ‘Haven’ because he wants it to be an oasis where people can just go and enjoy art and forget their worries for a moment.
“For this reason I made portraits of happy and positive people. Just to remind people to smile despite everything negative that is going on in their personal lives, community or country,” he said.
Mdoka said he held the exhibition in Zomba because the owner of the Chocolate Factory (Laura Schuerwegen) offered him the venue when he was in South Africa.
“When I came back a couple of months ago, I immediately started preparing for the exhibition,” he said.
Mdoka said he was also glad to observe that young people patronized the exhibition.
“When you have young people patronise the exhibition that is good for the future of art in Malawi. Most of our elders are not in it fully for now,” he said.
