The Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) has recalled three out of the seven managers who were sent on forced leave by the Malawi Electoral Cycle Support Project Steering Committee to pave the way for investigations into the alleged misappropriation of funds.

The three, according to Mec, have been cleared of any wrong doing.

The three managers who have been recalled are Deputy Chief Elections Officer (Operations) Harris Potani, Procurement Officer Chimwewe Kamala and Assistant Procurement Officer Sydney Ndembe.

Chairperson of the Commission, Justice Jane Ansah said that the recall is part of the implementation of the recommendations in the Investigative Audit report by the Independent Review Panel.

The panel provided that some managers shall face disciplinary action while some will not.

“There were recommendations for disciplinary action which we are implementing among other things. So we have started the process of disciplinary action but some managers have been called back,” Ansah said.
