Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) Tuesday resolved to move the national tally centre for the June 23 fresh presidential election from Comesa Hall at Chichiri Trade Fair grounds to College of Medicine (CoM) hall in Blantyre.
The new venue reportedly has better facilities.
Comesa Hall has been a national tally centre for several past elections but the new commission that was ushered in a few days ago, at a meeting in Blantyre, resolved to shift the tally centre.
Sources told The Daily Times that even though Mec continues to face challenges in preparing for the fresh poll, the commission has maintained June 23, which was set by Parliament, as the date for the fresh election.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Defenders Coalition, in a letter dated June 16, and signed by Chairperson Gift Trapence, has asked the electoral body to consider relocating the nation tally centre from Blantyre to Lilongwe for logistical reasons apparently because the capital city is centrally located.
But when contacted Tuesday, Mec spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa said he had not yet been advised on the issue.
