Out of contract Malawi National Football team Head Coach Meck Mwase has revealed plans to recall South Africa-based striker Khuda Muyaba in the squad for the final Africa Cup of Nations Group B qualifiers next month.
Mwase said he has been monitoring Muyaba’s performance since the start of the 2020/21 National First Division (NFD) season and felt the controversial Polokwane City striker should be given another chance.
“Currently Muyaba is doing well at Polokwane and if you recall I said that every player who is doing well will be considered for national team duties. For your information, Muyaba will be part of the squad next month,” he said.
Flames will face South Sudan away on Wednesday, March 24, before winding up their Group B campaign at home against Uganda on Monday, March 29.
The former Silver Strikers forward scored his second goal for Polokwane City on Saturday when the side drew 1-1 with Steenberg United.
Khuda last featured for the Flames on May 11 2019 when the senior side drew 1-1 with eSwatini during the return match of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Flames were booted out of the Chan competition on away goals rule after they played out to a goalless draw at Mavuso Sports Centre in Manzini on April 20 the same year.
Muyaba has had mixed fortunes as indiscipline has limited his progress at the senior side.
The striker has struggled to break into the senior side despite winning the 2019 TNM Super League golden boot award with 21 goals.
