Medhealth pumps K3.4 million into Mzuzu City marathon

Medhealth has donated K3.4 million to Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) to support the newly introduced Mzuzu City Half Marathon slated for March 5.
The company made the symbolic handover at its Lilongwe premises yesterday.
Medhealth Sales and Marketing Manager Maya Paul Kafwamba said the donation is in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility.
“Our aim to promote sports in Malawi. We are in football. We also want to help athletics develop,” Kafwamba said.
The marathon is aimed at promoting healthy living and well-being.
In addition, this will be an opportunity for the athletes to showcase their talent.
MNCS Administration Manager Henry Mereka hailed the company for the timely gesture.
“We appeal to the private sector to support us so that we host a successful event,” Mereka said.
The budget for the Mzuzu Marathon is pegged at K30 million, with the winner expected to pocket K1 million. The runner-up will get K700,000 whereas the third-placed individual will pocket K500,000.
