Flames gaffer Meke Mwase has explained that his decision to recall Azerbaijan-based Robin Ngalande was informed by monitoring of the forward’s displays at his Azerbaijan club, FC Zire.
Ngalande was a surprise inclusion in Mwase’s squad which jetted out to Botswana on Wednesday for tomorrow’s 2022 Fifa World Cup preliminary round first leg qualifier against the Zebras.
Addressing the press on Tuesday in Blantyre, Mwase said: “We have been following Ngalande using various platforms including YouTube. We also contacted his club and we have also been in touch with him. We know how he is performing.”
Ngalande, whose career has also taken him from Civil Sporting Club to Mamelodi Sundowns Youth (South Africa), Altetico Madrid Youth (Spain), Bidvest Wits, Ajax Cape Town, Platinum Stars, Baroka (all South Africa), has not featured for Malawi for close to a year.
He is among six foreign-based players in the squad alongside Richard Mbulu, Gerald Phiri Junior (both Baroka, South Africa), Frank Banda (UD Songo, Mozambique), Yamikani Chester (North Carolina FC, United States) and Gabadinho Mhango (Orlando Pirates, South Africa).
Mhango made it a full house after joining the squad in Johannesburg while in transit to Francistown.
