The artist, who recently received an award from World Bank in United States of America (USA), said he was happy to perform at the MTN Bushfire Festival and at the same time participate in workshops.

“I am the only one performing at the festival representing Malawi which is very special and, again, apart from the performance, I will participate in workshops which will help me interact with other players in the creative industry,” Menes said.

The organisers of the festival have, said they are proud to host this year’s festival describing it as exciting and lively.

The festival starts on Friday through to Sunday.

The festival explores themes such us; inclusion and tolerance – minority rights, environmental sustainability, sexual and reproductive health, gender diversity, equality and empowerment, child protection, and the Beyond Borders Programme focused on arts mobility.

To add an exciting and engaging element to this year’s zone, a host of visual artists will be on site throughout the weekend, creating murals and installational artwork around these key themes.

Menes will be part of the MTN Bushire Festival Beyond Borders workshop that will bring together several directors from different festivals.

A press statement from MTN Bushire Festival says the festival is more than simply a musical festival as it is also a celebration of the human spirit.

Festival Coordinator Tammy Mbendera, who is from Malawi, said, every year, in addition to its main programme, MTN Bushfire

encourages the joy of creative expression and that it invites everyone to contribute and engage through a programme of creative workshops, discussions, art exhibitions and guest speakers.

Mbendera said this programme of interactive events enables conversation and debate.
