The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has said investigations into sexual harassment allegations against Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director General Aubrey Sumbuleta are at an advanced stage.
Sumbuleta has, since October last year, been on forced leave over the issue.
MHRC Executive Secretary Habiba Osman said they were remaining with a few witnesses to testify in the matter.
“Some people had come in with more testimonies on the issue. And we also had two witnesses who were supposed to come but had issues; so, they didn’t come until lately when they have allowed us to have a meeting with them.
“After these meetings [with them], the commission will be able to come up with a conclusion,” Osman said.
Osman also said investigations would not be affected by the recent death of the commission’s chairperson, Reverend Patrick Semphere.
“Much as we appreciate that he [Semphere] was going to be vital in the provision of strategic guidance, this will not affect the investigations because we were already at an advanced stage,” Osman said.
MBC Board Chairperson Vasco Kachipapa said they were waiting for the commission to conclude its investigations.
