‘Mid of the Night’ film set to premiere at Madsoc
The country’s film industry might be struggling as far as resources are concerned but players are surely digging deeper as noticed with the release of movies on the ground.
There is still more work do be done as far as producing quality movies is concerned but there is progress and as veteran filmmaker Shemu Joyah observed recently, talent is there and, with enough resources and support, artists will make headway.
MultiChoice recently also brought good news to the film industry when it announced a major Pan-African initiative for the film and television industry.
Through the initiative, dubbed MultiChoice Talent Factory, they will deliver three touch points that are academies, master classes and the portal, all aimed at training players in the industry.
But with all that said, players in the country continue to produce movies’ the latest being Mid of the Night set to premiere at Madsoc Theatre in Lilongwe this coming Saturday.
There are also some movies which have been premiered lately and they include Joyce Mhango Chavula’s Nyasaland, Joyah’s Road to Sunrise and Flora Suya’s Dear Pen Pal.
Mid of the Night is the work of Michiru Movie-gate led by players such as Blessings Suya.
Suya has gained experience over the years as he has starred in some movies and episodes.
“As Michiru Movie-gate, we are here to stay and we have a number of films we want to work on. All we ask for the support from people. We believe we have done well in this first film,” Suya said.
But how good or original is the movie “On how good, I would rather wait for people to sample it but from the way we worked on it, I am optimistic they will love it. Again we tried to run away from the usual love stories and so we have tried horror,” he said.
He said Mid of the Night runs for one hour and 20 minutes and stars Roy Chidzanja, Alinaye Nyemba and himself.
“This is a story written by Yamikani Mbeta, he actually wrote it as a short story an we decided to develop it for film. The story basically centres on art and talks about the life of an artist,” Suya said.
