Kamuzu Barracks (KB) and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers are slowly turning into familiar foes in domestic football, and this afternoon they face-off in a TNM Super League match at Champions Ground in Mponela, Dowa District.
Both teams will be on a revenge mission after mixed fortunes against each other in TNM Super League and FDH Bank Cup fixtures.
KB will be looking forward to avenging the 4-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of Wanderers in the FDH Bank Cup quarterfinal while the Nomads have an axe to grind with the soldiers who beat them 2-1 in the first round of the Super League.
The soldiers are enjoying a rich vein of form, having played 11 consecutive matches in the league without a loss.
Wanderers are also unbeaten in the league since Alex Ngwira took over.
KB are coming from a 2-0 away victory over struggling Sable Farming and morale in their camp is obviously high.
Wanderers suffered a misfortune in the FDH Bank Cup semi-finals after Nyasa Big Bullets hammered them 4-0 about two weeks ago.
But they recovered to beat Mafco 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
The two sides are separated by seven points, with the soldiers lying second on the table having amassed 47 points from 24 matches whereas the Nomads are fourth with 40 points after fulfilling 21 assignments.
KB assistant coach Blessings Kawanga said his troops will make life difficult for Wanderers.
’’This is an important match for us in our quest to finish in the top three. It will be a different game altogether since many factors have changed since we beat them in the first round. But we are ready for them. Our mission is to collect maximum points,’’ Kawanga said.
KB have assembled a strong squad comprising top players such as Zeliat Nkhoma, Sam Chivunde, Chimwemwe Chisambi and Ndaona Daisi.
Wanderers coach Alex Ngwira said his troops are in the right frame of mind for the game.
“We are geared for the challenge. We are on a serious mission and our players are looking forward to collecting maximum points,’’ Ngwira said.
Wanderers will head into the match without defenders Stanley Sanudi and Adeleke Kolawole due to injuries.
However, they will welcome back Francis Mkonda and Vitumbiko Kumwenda who missed the match against Mafco.
Elsewhere, relegation threatened Sable will host Karonga United at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.
Action continues tomorrow as leaders Bullets face Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
After locking horns with Sable, Karonga will go back to Chiwembe for a showdown against Tigers whereas Ekwendeni Hammers will meet Blue Eagles at Mzuzu Stadium.
Dedza Dynamos welcome Moyale Barracks at Dedza Stadium while TN Stars face Mafco at Kasungu Stadium.
