Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Supporters Limited Board General Secretary Ernest Maganga has stepped down from his position.

Maganga’s resignation comes just two weeks after the board’s reconstitution.

“I have decided to step down from my new role as it will duplicate the duties of the Chief Executive Officer [CEO] and management.

“When the board was reconstituted [with eight people being appointed], there was another company that was formed called Mighty Wanderers Supporters Limited. I was appointed [without being consulted] as General Secretary for that company,’’ Maganga said.

He said forming such a company was unnecessary and that he had made his views clear to stakeholders at the club.

“I expressed my views that this company was unnecessary as it will duplicate the duties of the CEO and management team that the club wants to employ. For your information, the president [Thom Mpinganjira] tried to explain to me that the main reason of coming up with this company is to initiate commercialisation activities such as selling of replica jerseys.

“I feel this matter must be left in the hands of management. After all, such positions have already been advertised. Unfortunately, the president didn’t see my angle of reasoning but I am very certain that I will be vindicated not long from now,’’ he said.

Wanderers appointed Jeremoth Chilapondwa as the new supporters’ chairperson with Suzanne Dossi, Mervin Nkunika and Sam Mponda taking up positions of director.

The company will be responsible for the new supporters’ regime.

However, the club’s supporters’ committee will remain intact and will continue performing their duties.

Meanwhile, Dossi has declined the position, saying she sees a conflict of interest.

“I am a member of Parliament and I represent people who belong to different teams. So I do not want to find myself in a situation where I am taking care of Wanderers supporters only at the expense of all my constituents.

“I already wrote Wanderers about my position on 14th September 2022. But I still love the team and will continue supporting it,” she said.

Recently, Wanderers reconstituted the board but maintained business mogul Thomson Mpinganjira as the club’s president and board chairperson.

Asked to comment on the matter, the Nomads’ commercialisation committee chairperson and media liaison officer Clement Stambuli referred us to board secretary Chancy Gondwe, who neither picked our calls nor responded to our WhatsApp messages by the time of going to bed.

Some of the directors including former chairperson Gift Mkandawire, Simon Sikwese, Philip Nyamali, Jack Kamwendo , Max Kalamula, Minister of National Unity Timothy Mtambo, Docan Ngwira, Makhumbo James Mapunda and Harry Msiska were shown the exit door.
