Mighty Wanderers officials’ mandate expires

Mighty Wanderers will return to the drawing board to hire new management personnel as the mandate for the current administrators expires at the end of the 2021 TNM Super League season.

Wanderers acting Chief Executive Officer Chancy Gondwe disclosed this through an internal memo dated October 2 2021.

“As the football season for 2021 is drawing closer to the end, I wish to remind the board, through your office, that our mandate expires within two games time. The board resolved that we were to act on interim basis till the end of the season,” Gondwe states in the memo.

Gondwe, who also doubles as the team’s legal adviser, said he would continue serving in the board but will not be available for management post.

“I will be bowing out immediately after the last Super League game so I can spend more time on my personal businesses,” he said.

Gondwe, in the letter, indicates that the tenure of three other management officials was also expiring.

“The Administration Manager, the Finance Manager and the Public Relations Manager have also expressed similar wishes. We are no longer interested in management of the team. We wish to thank the entire board for your massive support throughout our tenure and wish this attitude continues with those that come to take over,” the letter reads.

Gondwe said there was nothing sinister with the internal communication.

“It was obvious that our term will come to an end because we were appointed by the board,” he said.

One of the management officials Ernest Maganga, who is acting Public Relations Manager, echoed similar remarks.

“We were appointed on acting basis. All of us also serve in the board; as such, we are not supposed to be in direct control or management of the team. This is why we advised our CEO to notify the board that we will not be serving in the management. Elsewhere, just like our colleagues at Bullets and Silver are doing, we also need permanent management staff,” he said.

Maganga said their move was timely as Wanderers will have ample time to set up a management team before the Airtel Top 8 Cup starts.
