In individual awards, Henry Mtuta won the longest drive on hole number five while Eric Chapola underlined his supremacy by winning the nearest to the pin on hole six.

In subsidiary men’s senior awards, senior golfer James John Chikapa was honoured. Former Blantyre Sports Club golf captain Hudson Kantwanje was also honoured in absentia.

In ladies category, Banda was the champion and was followed by Connie Muguvu, who also claimed a double by winning the ladies’ longest drive.

UGI strategic business unit manager, Elias Richard Chipungu, said they decided to support golf following a request from one of their clients in the area, Makande Tea Estate.

“Makande has been one of our valuable clients for the past 15 years. When the proposal came to sponsor golf, we did not hesitate to be part of the project,” he said.

Thyolo Sports Club golf captain, Prem Singh, thanked UGI for supporting the tournament and golfers for taking part.

UGI’s business development manager, Atupele Mangochi, also thanked the golfers for taking part in the tournament despite being an eventful weekend.

“We don’t take it for granted that you came in large numbers to support the tournament. The weekend had a number of golf tournaments,” he said.
