Millias Pofera to ring the changes at Civo
Civo United coach, Millias Jegwe Pofera, says some players deemed surplus to requirements face the chop before the start of the new season.
The former Dedza Young Soccer mentor on Wednesday kept a tight lid on the possible casualties, saying the process would be completed by the end of this week.
“We have many players, who are training with the team but we need a squad of not more than 25 players next season. I have been with the players for some months now, and I have a true picture of the squad, so we will make decision very soon,” Pofera explained.
According to Pofera, over 35 players have been trying their luck at Civo, hoping to clinch deals.
On the departure of defence pillars, Emmanuel Zoya and John Lanjesi, who joined Nyasa Big Bullets on reportedly combined fee of K8million, Pofera claimed that he was not losing his sleep.
“Definitely, Civo fans will watch quality football this season. We are building a strong and entertaining team,” he added.
So far, Civo have played seven pre-season games. The have registered three victories, three draws and a 4-0 humiliating defeat to rivals, Silver Strikers last week.
Civo are in the process of signing Ian Banda from Silver, Epac defender Dalitso Mwase and versatile attacker, Ferguson Mtondo from Dedza Young Soccer to bolster the squad.
Last season, Civo endured a sluggish start to the TNM Super League campaign having gone eight straight games without a win.
