Minister dares traditional leaders on peace

By Isaac Salima:
Traditional leaders in the country have been urged to foster peace and unity among their subjects.
Local Government Minister Lingson Belekanyama made the remarks when he elevated Group Village Head Holo to Sub Traditional Authority in Phalombe District.
“Chiefs should be custodians of peace. They should also be in the forefront when it comes to the promotion of the rule of law. They should also desist from corruption. Chiefs play an important role in the development of the country; hence, the need for them to be of integrity,” Belekanyama said.
Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Regional Chairperson, Blessings Makwinja, commended the government for elevating one of their own.
“The elevation of the chief is good news to us because he is a Lhomwe chief. We thank the government for this special gift to us, Lhomwes, and we will help him so that he serves the people well,” Makwinja said.
