Youth and Sports Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda has asked Malawi National Council of Sports’ new board members to work towards implementing resolutions made at the sports indaba.

President Lazarus Chakwera appointed the 10-member board early this week, with seasoned football administrator and academician Sunduzwayo Madise retaining the chairmanship.

Working with Madise in the board are Charles Ulaya, Gladson Kuyeri, Helen Mpinganjira-Tasosa, Thokozani Chimbali, Chigomezgo Nyasulu, Alufeyo Chipanga, Susan Namangale, Young Chimodzi and Chisomo Mwamadi.

Chimwendo Banda said resolutions made at the indaba in Lilongwe about two months ago need to be implemented in full.

“I deliberately called for the sports indaba so that we take every stakeholder on board as we continue with efforts to develop sports in the country. The board members should consider implementation of the guidelines as one of their biggest assignments,” he said.

Writing on his Facebook page in response to his re-appointment, Madise said: “I am greatly humbled to be entrusted to head the board of the Malawi National Council of Sports for a second term. Forward ever, backward never—as the journey continues.”

One of the resolutions that associations made was that companies and organisations should use a minimum of one percent of their profits to support sports.

During the indaba, Sports Council also unveiled guidelines for sport associations.

Among other things, the guidelines restricted association head positions to degree holders.
