Ministry extends Mary Waya’s contract, Kinnah Phiri kept in the dark

The Ministry of Sports has renewed a contract for Mary Waya as the Netball Director while former Flames mentor Kinnah Phiri has been left in suspense on his role as Football Director.
Contracts for both legends expired some months ago.
Details of Waya’s contract including its duration were sketchy as we went to press Sunday.
However, both Waya and Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sports Jameson Ndalama confirmed the development but refused to shed more light.
Waya refereed us to the ministry’s spokesperson Symon Bvundula.
“Of course chances are that I will continue with my work but I can’t say much. May you please contact the spokesperson [Bvundula],” said the former Queens coach and captain.
Bvundula also refused to shed more light on the matter.
“This is a small matter. It is only a contract renewal [and] Mary [Waya] would be better placed to speak on these matters as it is a more personal issue,” he said.
On his part, Kinnah said he was still in the dark regarding his tenure.
However, the former Flames forward recently told officials from the ministry that he wanted to continue coaching.
“They employed me as Director of Football and I prefer to be more on the pitch or in the field scouting talent than doing paper work in the office. As we speak I am optimistic that the government will renew my contract. We are still talking and they keep assuring me things will work,” said the former Nyasa Big Bullets coach.
The government hired both Waya and Phiri last year offering them year-long contracts to help develop netball and football, respectively.
