Miracle Moffat stuns Mzuzu

After successfully launching her late mother’s album Esther in Blantyre and Lilongwe, Miracle Moffat finished the series of the launch shows at Squirrels Park in Mzuzu on Sunday.

Miracle’s mother Grace Chinga, was no ordinary musician.

Despite coinciding with shows for other big names on the gospel block, who had performances at the Boma Park and Grand Palace Hotel, Miracle proved that she is the next force to reckon with.

If the numbers of the patrons that came and witnessed the show are anything to go by, it is therefore safe to say that Miracle is assured of unwavering support from gospel fans in the North’s commercial capital.

Chairperson for Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) North Chapter, Dyton Mbewe, hailed people of Mzuzu for extending the love they had for the departed music genius to her daughter.

“We all loved Grace Chinga, and Miracle can only successfully carry on her mother’s legacy through your support. At Mum we have welcomed her, she makes us proud,” Mbewe said.

Backed by Blantyre-based Malimba Band, the young songstress alternated tracks from the new album and her mother’s previous albums with ease.

Though yet to master the art of stage performance, throughout the show Miracle dared not to disappoint the music lovers, she pulled in all her energy and put all her singing and dancing skills on display.

Talk of dancing, her stylish brother Steve Spesho mesmerised the crowd with his antics when he took to the stage to perform three of his songs before paving way for his younger sister.

With support from legends of the microphone like Ethel Kamwendo Banda, King James Phiri and Thocco Katimba, Miracle sent some of the people in the audience into tears when she played her mother’s last production Ndzaulura.

Grace Chinga died in March.

Some of the songs that she ditched out include Wayalula, Esther, Korona, Chimdalitso and Ondikana Pagulu.
