Misheck Esau and Harriet Mariani overcame different misfortunes to win this year’s Nico General Golf Tournament at Nchalo Sports Club on Saturday.

Esau, who is also CDH Investment Bank Chief Executive Officer, last won a tournament in 2011 before going into hibernation following his trophy-less run.

However, it was a different case on Saturday when he bagged 38 points, one ahead of second-placed Bregger Kaingwe.

Nchalo Sports Club Golf Captain, John Mphande, ended on third position with 36 points.

The men’s section champion said it was a successful comeback to golf action.

“I last won a tournament in 2011 and I just came to enjoy the day. Even though the golf course is well, it was tough. You can even see the scores,” Esau, with a 15-handicap, said.

Carol Banda settled for second position after scoring 29 points.

Mariani said: “I have had bad experiences here at Nchalo as sometimes I struggle due to nervousness, maybe. However, today it was a different case. Even my playing partners were a lucky charm to me.”

In the individuals’ category, Kaingwe won the longest drive on hole 17 in the men’ section whereas Connie Karuku hit the longest drive in ladies’ section on hole 13.

Loice Chingono won nearest to the pin on hole 18 in the ladies’ section whereas Gilton Chiwaula followed suit in men’s category.

Kingfisher Chief Executive Officer, Henry Sisya, with 30 points, was named best brooker whereas Maurice Chilinda, with 29 points, won the Nchalo Close.

Legendary golfer JJ Chikapa won the seniors’ category with 35 points.
