Miss Albinism to donate to Dzaleka

Miss Albinism Chikondi Kanjadza will today donate blankets to persons with albinism at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa.

Kanjadza who last month was involved in the Kukongola Kowala campaign with Mr Albinism Bennet Phunyanya aimed at telling the good stories of persons with albinism as well as exposing their talents, said the donation was part of supporting persons with albinism.

“We initially wanted to donate to children with albinism only but we have a lot of blankets and so, we will donate to all,” she said.

Kanjadza said the donation was coming from Nagoya, who gave 10 percent of their profits for this cause.

“Nagoya is a Malawian owned shoe brand which specialises in manufacturing classic shoes for ladies,” she said.

On her selection of Dzaleka, the Miss Albinism, said she stays in Dowa and that Dzaleka was close for her.

“The other reason is that persons with albinism at Dzaleka Refugee Camp lack basic needs and so we had to assist them. They are already a vulnerable group and so being within my reach I had to go for them,” she said.

The Miss Albinism said she was determined to do more and use her position to speak for the voiceless but also source for support.

“I would like to call upon well-wishers, the government and the corporate world to help us in cash or kind to work on different projects of supporting persons with albinism in the country,” she said.
