The show has been organised by Impala Marketing Agency led by Petros Mazunda with DStv among the sponsors.

Mazunda said the show was on adding that it has come up because of public demand.

“The tickets are selling out and we are just calling upon people to go to different outlets and buy because we will not sell any tickets on the door,” he said.

The Miss Blantyre organisers led by its chairperson Daniel Ngwira said they were going ahead with their event.

“Our audience is different and this is why we are not at all shaken that we have another event on the same night and just close to us,” Ngwira said.

Ngwira said 13 contestants will battle it out for the Miss Blantyre crown which is currently in the hands of Polytechnic final year student Chisomo Machelo.

He said the contestants will compete in six categories namely Zachimalawi, Profession, Brand Exhibition, Casual, Dinner and Talent.

“From the 13, we will select the best five who will battle it out in the very do or die category where judges will take them through a quiz to assess their thinking abilities,” Ngwira said.

He said that the headlining act during the contest will be Lulu and Mathumela Band.

Apart from Lulu, other artists performing at the red carpet event include Blaze, Queen B, LCee, Sil C, Twin M, Steve Spesho and Wesley.

“There will also be stand-up comedy from Mr Jokes and we also have poetry from Hudson Chamasowa and Faith Pinky Ice. All we want is for people to enjoy the night,” said the chairperson.

Last year the event failed to leave up to its billing with some students causing problems in the absence of adequate security but Ngwira said they have rectified all the challenges they experienced last year.

He said the audience will be treated to the best from the contestants, who were selected following auditions they held and that they have undergone trainings ahead of the event tomorrow.

“For example, in Zachimalawi, unlike the past where models paraded in traditional outfit, we have grown past that and challenged each to limit their innovation from within Malawi and show us how much they can best represent the country,” Ngwira said.

Some of the finalists this year include Priscilla Kumbambe, who is also Miss Polytechnic, Hellen Chiku, Myrah Khoza, Clara Makhuwa, Tadala Kwelepeta, Hannah Mhone and Yvonne Chanza.

He said the winner will receive K250, 000 and a baking scholarship from Julies Bakery.

Ngwira also said that Wow Designs Africa will offer the winner five times of free tailoring services for her designer outfits.
