Miss Culture Malawi beauty pageantry edition for 2023 will take place on July 29 in Lilongwe, organisers have said.
The previous two editions have been held in Blantyre.
As part of broadening their scope, organisers have also revealed that they are introducing Mrs Culture, which they have described as more mature and that it is targeting married women.
Miss Culture Malawi Public Relations Officer El Shaddai Masauli said Monday that they are excited to announce this year’s date for the event.
“We are not running away from Blantyre but we just want to reach out to the capital city after getting lots of requests from Lilongwe fans,” Masauli said.
The pageant this year will run under the theme ‘Affordable, Reliable and Sustainable Energy for All’.
She said they were equally happy to introduce Mrs Culture Malawi.
“We have introduced Mrs Culture Malawi with the aim of empowering women in entrepreneurship and community development,” she said.
Masauli said women are custodians of culture, hence it is important to preserve culture among young women “because women maintain principal roles when preserving culture and that is why pageants such as Miss Culture Malawi are important”.
The winner of Miss Culture Malawi participates at the Miss Culture International, which is run by Lush Africa, led by Lorraine Kljajic, who is the director.
The pageant is a marketing platform which was created to promote, inform, educate, empower and showcase Malawian culture through fashion and beauty.
